The original image is pretty cool, too.

That’d be an awesome album cover.
It is. Or rather, it was. I used it on my Ring This album, unfortunately now out of print. ![]()

It’s a beautiful picture. Something I find distracting is the faint bands of light which seem to hover beyond the rings. They may be lens flare, or they may be some kind of interference pattern in the reflected light from Saturn. What do you think, Denny?
It might be an artifact from the color enhancement.
There is a full scale JPG (& a TIFF) here
the jpg does not have the highlights, flares, etc.
The bands of light were covered in another Picture of the Day. I recall they were thought to be dust from the rings perhaps under the influence of static charges and magnetic fields, I think. The first time I saw Saturn back lit like that, I found it so beautiful, I was moved to tears.
Thanks, Rod. Yes, I noticed they had repeated the picture - it’s been in my wallpaper folder for a while.
At first glance, I thought the title was “In the Shadow of Satan”. ![]()
You’re right, Rod. I get blasé about the photos. Then it hits me that, in my lifetime, I’m looking at an actual snapshot of the backside of Saturn, from that perspective, with the Earth a glowing dot. And it’s completely boggling.
