In retrospective...

I have something I would like to say:

In retrospective, I should not have been beating the whatnot out of a bunch of old computer parts with a short-handled sledgehammer on Friday the 13th.

What can I say but that hindsight is 20/20 (unless, of course, one of your eyes is dripped over in blood from an L-shaped gash on your eyebrow that was inflicted by the corner of a rather jumpy, ripped-open harddrive. Then hindsight is more like 20/10).

Thank you for reading.

Oh, owie! Ow! Ow!

Isn’t it amazing that it’s perfectly safe to beat heck out of sharp metal bits any other day of the year, but not Friday the 13th? Just amazing.

Feel better soon!

Ummm… Turk, my man… the admonition to “hit any key” was taken just a bit too far, don’tcha know.

Hoping the stitches and the recovery time are short. Good thing you’re not an inch taller then, eh?

… and, think of this, you could have been the computer.

Ah, sledgehammers.

I’ve done a lot of demolition work in my day. It’s still one of my very favorite activities.

When we bought this house, I rebuilt the kitchen, which involved some tearing out. We had a high school student helping get the house ready. I would give him a project somewhere in the house, and occasionally he would appear in the kitchen to see if I was ready for him in there again. His eyes would be alight with expectation, and he would ask “Have you got any more demolition work for me yet?”

One of life’s fine pleasures.

Best wishes,
Jerry

Now, before you use your sledgehammer, let’s stop a moment to talk about shop safety. Be sure to read and follow all the manufacturer’s instructions in the user’s manual.

And let’s not forget the most important thing … don’t forget to wear these, saftey glasses.

NORM!!!… my hero!

And the hero of Delta, et al., too.

I always enjoy watching Norm say something like, “Now we’ll just take the panel we’ve assembled over to the 48” drum sander … ."

Best wishes,
Jerry

whack it with the “B.F.H.”!

We had an extremely large wooden mallet that someone had writtin “BFH” on the side of at work. Once, a PhD working with us kept referring to it as the BFH, having NO idea what the initials stood for. Someone kindly took him off to the side and explained…

Missy

Well, well …

I’ll cross reference this with the magical thinking thread. Today, 30 miles from home, I ran into, guess who, for the first time in four years.

Right. Demolition boy, now rather grown up, married and working at Walmart. I only went in to get a Pepsi on my way to another destination, was walking through the store when this big, bearded young man approached me and said, “Mr. Freeman!”

He introduced himself (I didn’t recognise him at first) and told me he was doing checkout on lane 14. So I went through his lane and had a nice chat. He’s married now, had moved to Georgia and then back here in March, is waiting to requalify for instate tuition and then will attend NY State University at Oswego.

I hadn’t seen him or mentioned him to anyone for a couple of years until I posted the story about him and the sledgehammer less than 24 hours ago.

Best wishes,
Jerry
