Important international law question

I have always believed that under international law a divided cutlerly drawer should be filled from left to right : knives , forks, spoons.
Is this true? My wife insists on doing it the other way round.

My left or your left?

good point, my left or your right if you are a drawer.

Mine is. So we’re ok once you establish world domination.

Eatin’ Irons go (left to right) Spoons, Forks, Knives, Very Sharp Knives.

But when I was a we’an, it was the other way. Gave no end of trouble. But that was a different house, a different country and a very different drawer-divider.
The question is, whose kitchen is it? If it’s yours, DA, then you have the say-so. If it’s the Home Ruler, then it’s hers.

I do more of the cooking but, my wife does more tidying, so it’s a stand off. We used to do it the right way but, we got a new divider and she says it works better the other way round. I can’t see any difference.
Was there some kind of watershed moment in cutlery drawer law? Like the switch to decimal/metric.

I may be mistaken, but it seems to me that our arrangement has always been driven by the compartmentalized thing I put the utensils in. The longer, knife-friendly, section is generally to the left, whereas the shorter spoon-shaped sections (and you can tell because of the rounded bowl part) tend to be to the right. The only way to switch it would be if you wanted the bowls of the spoons pointed toward you as you opened the drawer, and that’s just wrong. If a person’s sectional thingy does not have specific bowl-shaped segments then he/she may not feel coerced into this standard arrangement.

That’s how ours is too. The law is determined by the manufacturer of the divider. Proof that corporations really do run the world.

Due to lack of drawers and a not very deep cupboard my cutlery goes from top to bottom (spoons, forks, knives) rather than left to right.

DEVIANT! :boggle: :boggle: :boggle:

Our devider has four sections, the first three are of equal size and the fourth is about 10% narrower.
The small one (far right) houses the potato peelers, small sharp knives ,pastry brush etc. The other three are the same so there is no excuse.
Our old devider was plastic and only accepted cutlery being placed in the correct order.
It’s interesting to note that even the most deviant of people still put forks in the middle. Do knives and spoons need to be kept appart?

Of course. Spoons are utterly defenceless against knives. No sharp edges, you see.

I must be REALLY deviant!

As I stand looking at the drawer, there is a long section on my left that has odds and ends - plastic forks and spoons, etc. Then 3 evenly sized sections that have, from left to right: forks, knives, big spoons. Across the bottom there is a shorter horizontal section, and that’s where the teaspoons are. There’s a separate “box” that holds the sharp knives placed to the right of the main holder. Measuring spoons are tossed in the space that the holder doesn’t take up in the drawer towards the front. The really big carving knife and cleaver are in a different cupboard. Spatulas, tongs, wooden spoons, corn-on-the-cob holders, pizza cutter - all in the drawer below the silverware drawer.

Unless they are runcible.

Perhaps, which way does your toilet paper roll? Overhand or underhand?

The important thing is to keep the spoons separated from the dishes.

:boggle:

over.

Well, of course. We wouldn’t want them to run away.

This is what I would do left to my own devices.
