thanks for the info…good to know, even though it doesnt make any sense. Well, the good news is that if I can bring my whistles on board and some terrorist tries to reenact Sept 11, I’ll take him out with a SweeTone in one hand, a Copeland in the other, and the public image of whistles and whistling will skyrocket (as well as those all important whistle futures).
Melvin Belly wrote . . . "I have observed that the customs issues raised in her post have caused a recent and unfortunate rise in International Whistle Smuggling. . . Having represented many Whistle Mules, those hapless victims of WhOA who courier high end USA made whistles across international borders "
Which can only illicit the shocked responce . . . “You pulled that whistle from WHERE?”
Actually this is just an economic math problem. One(Note I didn’t say “I” to keep it hypothetical and within the bounds of protected free speech, lol). What I have to figure is the cost of a discount air ticket from DIA to Dublin. Then figure how many whistles would have to be taken to clear a decent profit. It begs many questions. Would the longer but higher end low whistles be worth it? The Walton is aluminum and lighter weight. Would there be a market for a LBW with the Guinness Label or would one be kicked out of Ireland with it? It’s time for a business case analysis!

GO FOR THE CHIEFTAN…they are DEADLY.
Actually I have been stopped with whistle as carry ons. And interestingly enough the Clark and sweetone was the only ones the really objected to. They seemed to think they were SHARP. I had to put them in my luggage. But they let me carry my burke and harper so It was ALL good!

D’oh! I’ve always put my whistles in my luggage lest they think they were weapons… this post thoroughly vindicates my low estimation of the intelligence of and high estimation of the paranoia of today’s airline security (Personally, I think my laptop is far deadlier… a good swing could easily concuss somebody, and a shattered screen would have some reasonably sharp edges…)
On a related note, apparently musical instruments are forbidden in the local courthouses… I kinda wonder what inspired codifying that…

well…“duh” if you want, I didnt have a choice. I was flying on a day trip and didnt have any luggage. Besides I am not sure I TRUST them WITH my WHISTLES!!!

Just to be clear, “D’oh” is not “Duh”, the former being an exclamation of surpise and dismay, the latter one being an exclamation of the-listener-is-stupid (or, something like that…) In this case, the surprise and dismay at the security people considering whistles as weapons in any sense other than sonically…
Okay, the surprise was fairly mild, but I’m still dismayed that they would stop a whistler!
And, btw, your concern is quite correct… I’ve got a dinged and no-longer-playable guiness LBW that didn’t survive the suitcase experience. I’m contemplating a hard-shell suitcase now… say, quarter-inch titanium…
