Does anyone have a picture of a Syn whistle to share with us?
Or better yet, a friggin website?
Here’s the photo Erle posted in his Synwhistles launch thread.

Cool, thanks!
Hmmm, they look a lot like the wooden one that i just finished test-driving. Except for the material, of course.

They look an awful lot like my Hoover Whitecap, generally. What are the differences between them other than the color of the mouthpiece?
Well, a whistle is a whistle, right? ![]()
No websites so far, Sam, frigging or otherwise.
Really?
The Whitecap I have is a metal bodied instrument with a CPVC head that attaches in the manner of a Generation or Soodlums or the like.
As for images of Dr. Syn:

As Walden has said, the Whitecap head is a separate piece that fits on the end of the tube. Some folks have compared the Syn head to the Sindt, but looking at it, I actually think it’s more similar to an Alba, except that the outermost part is Delrin rather than aluminum.
Walden, that is one creepy photograph.
Who is that, Cotton Mather? ![]()

On-topic P.S.: I have a Syn, and it’s quite a lot of whistle for the money. It gets frequent session play.
OK, I see now that the blade is a part of the tube rather than the mouth piece, interesting. I do not believe Mack’s whitecaps are tunable either. At least mine is not.
So, make me listen to a High G for an hour or two already! ![]()
Well, Dr. Syn is an 18th Century vicar by day…
But by night…

Here’s a disturbing image of Syn:

Amazing what you can find in Google…
A few more images of Syn:

Is this a Syn of omission or is it a Syn of commission?
Of course Whitecaps are tunable. Depending on how far you stick it on, it’ll be flatter or sharper.
The Hoover someone mentioned that looks like a Syn is not a whitecap, it is Mack’s CPVC tunable whistle.
I’ve had a Syn soprano D for a couple of weeks. The fiddler in our group loves it because it’s in tune. I love it because it keeps her happy. As I said in another thread, it’s what a Susato should be, if the tone were rounder and fuller. It’s plenty loud enought for our 5 person session (two guitars, fiddle, bodhran and me). You have to lean into it a bit at the high end (high A and B) to stay cleanly in the upper ocatave. This is normal for a loud whistle. As with all whistles, the C is a tad flat and the C# a bit too sharp, but the variation with the Syn is small. I’m a tweaker by nature and I did open up the A just a little in order to sharpen it a bit. I have a Jerry Freeman Shaw on order, which sells for about the same price…slightly more actually. I’m very much looking forward to comparing the two.
Anybody know how big that tube is? Generations are 1/2 inch in diameter. Are Syns as big around as they look in the photo?
The inside diameter is about the same, but because the wall is thicker, the outside diameter is larger.
