I'm high speed, baby!

Despite that fact that I only managed to get limited sleep last night, up by 6:45am for Time Warner Cable to come, one helluva migrane coming on and two cups of coffee . . . might as well make it three . . . add the unability to type anything into the keyboard . . . EEEEEEK! I’m majorly excited and shaking all the while I hook up the Ethernet cable up to my Imac . . . a little rearranging and poof! Time Warner High Speed Internet! I got Live Ireland on right now through my Itunes player, setting up new Email accounts, lots of fun.

I’m actually planning to configure a Netgear wireless modem so I can use my built in Airport.

I guess the only thing I’d ask the cable internet Mac users on the board is . . . do any of you use Virus software? I haven’t in years, as it caused more problems than it was worth. I never caught anything using Dialup. Do you think I need it now?

MacBook Pro user here, on cable.
So far, just letting the computer collect its periodic security updates has worked. To be fair though, I detest both McAfee and Norton which I have had installed on the resident pc at one time or other.

I’ve used Macs since 1988. I did catch one bug that was going around in '97 or so - but have NEVER used an antivirus program before, or since.

Thank you, the replies are much appreciated. I want to do a few downloads off Apple and watch YouTube, but nothing huge.

I am having a much harder time getting my wireless Netgear to work. Far too reminiciant of past hardware/software problems. I finally managed to get it working after disabiling the security/password. I’m not happy, I want a password. But at least I know the Netgear is working. I’ll figure it out later.

My neighborhood is full of wireless users, half of which do not have security. I used to hop onto their connections and watch YouTube for a few minutes, then feel guilty and hop off. I figure that for a few days, it won’t hurt to have the password off.
