identifying a low d whistle

i have the opportunity to purchase a low d whistle from someone who does not know the make. the only identifying mark is a “k” engraved between the mouthpiece and the first hole.

does anyone know what make of whistle this might be? a kerry???

thanks for any help!

Tom,
Is it all metal? (aluminum, brass, nickel)
one piece or tunable?
fipple plug material? (wood, delrin)

hi tony -

the whistle is being offered by a german auction service (i live in germany). i will get back to the seller to get verified answers to the questions.

from the look of the picture, it looks like an aluminium whistle with a plastic (delrin?) fipple that is tunable.

cheers!

Sounds like a cheap Kerry Low D from the description, can’t be sure without seeing a picture though.

here’s the picture.

It looks from the picture like a Kerry with the plastic fipple. Dale has a fairly lengthy description/discussion of them in the low whistle section of the main board.

Definitely looks like a Kerry low D. I’ve only played one and I was impressed by both sound and low price (but went for an Overton as it was better, though more expensive). Since then, Dixon low Ds have arrived and you may do better with one of those.

dear all -

thanks for all the help!

one more thing:

does anyone have experience playing this type of kerry with small hands? i’m considering buying it as my first low d whistle, but am concerned because my hands are quite small.
