Can anyone help me identify a 2-piece whistle, of wood or black plastic, with metal joints and a small shamrock marking? Seems to be careful, high quality construction. Thanks.

Thank you for the identification. It looks like I hadn’t read the High End Whistle reviews in enough detail – following the link to the long review with picture nails it down.
Actually, I have half of an O’Riordan – the lower shaft. My wife and I purchased much of a collection which had been gathered by a gentleman who was, so far as I can tell, a private player, collector, and amateur instrument maker. My wife was interested in the recorders and capped reeds. Most of the whistles in the collection were donated to St. Louis Irish Arts, including one head and two shafts for O’Riordan whistles. The third shaft, which had been fitted with a cut-down Yamaha plastic fife head, came to me. To my best knowledge there are no other whistle heads surviving from the collection, or they are not available in any case.
