Identify this Whistle

I scored a whistle today at a thrift store for $1. It looks somewhat similar to my feadog, Brass with a green fipple, but the fipple is different and the decal logolooks sorta like an elongated 0.

Any guesses on the make of this whistle??

Giles

Hmm…generation makes a green top brass, as do clare, doolin …I’d try going to thewhistleshop.com and comparing to some pics on their inexpensive whistle page, or on Dale’s list-o-whistles.

Thanks avanutria, I checked these sources out, but no matches. I was hoping that maybe the logo would be a good indicator. Looking at the top of the whistle, the logo looks like 4 green stripes and when you look at the bottom, the stripes terminate into curves that kinda form an elongated 0. Anyway thanks for the suggestions.

Giles, if you email me the jpg, I’ll upload it to my web server and post it here, if you think it will help someone identify the whistle.

Without seeing the logo, I’d guess it may be a Soodlum…aka an old Walton

Yes, they used to crank some out that didn’t have a name on them.

Glad to do it, Giles.

Hmm, I can’t tell from the photos. At the base of the fipple, is it “faceted” rather than a smoothe cylinder?

Looks a lot like my old Soodlums.

Actually the rings around the base look like my Feadog…

The base of the mouthpiece…fipple is a block in the underside of windway…please see ‘define and “chiff”…“&”…“fipple”’ threads.

The base of the fipple is a smooth cylinder, only the top of the fipple is faceted.

What was the name of the forerunner of the Feadog?

That looks exactly like my first Feadog whistle, minus the “Feadog” label which was printed in fancy green Irish script, just below the mouthpiece.

Could that be the “mark I” Feadog i’ve read about? Mine was purchased in 1992 or so, and was the first D whistle in my collection. I still have it, but it’s too quiet to be really useful to me. It sounds nice though; the next model headpiece was louder but quite harsh to my ears.

Be seeing you,

eric.

They had one like this on ebay a couple of weeks ago. I’m not sure but I think is a McCullough.

Yep, it’s an old Feadog. I can’t say I’d blame someone for taking off that top sticker. It’s identical to mine, and the sticker at the bottom is the giveaway, I think.

Mine was my first whistle too, which my father brought back from Ireland in, hrm.. '88 or '89. It sat in a drawer for about ten years before I started playing seriously.

It’s still my favorite whistle, but the intonation’s a mile off, so it’s more like my favorite solo whistle.

Thanks to you all for the info. It’s fun having yet another whistle and solving the mystery of Who Made It.
