You know, cran, I’ve been feeling a lot like that too…I’ve had the blasted flu all week, and just felt generally like ick. I’ve been dizzy and having a hard time standing up for long periods. I don’t know if that helps or not…more than likely it doesn’t
I hope you feel better soon!
They were called Alice B. Toklas brownies. Great for movies since the effect lasted a long time (and in a movie theater you couldn’t just torch a spliff like at a Dead concert), but you needed a lot more herb for the same buzz.
You know, that’s a really good point about mono. When I had it in college, I didn’t know what it was at first (like the first week or so), and it was really bizarre. I didn’t have the energy to walk farther than the next building without sitting down to rest, then after a few days it felt like my eyes were going to pop out of my head. Then the sore throat set in, and the rest is history. You may want to get a blood test for that too, Cran, while you’re at it! Seriously.
I tried lane down but I just lay there and feel like my body is spiraling off a mountain or something. It’s almost like the bed is swallowing me. It’s so strange.
I don’t have a fever or anything, but it feels so odd and scarey.
I’m not going ot school tomorrow. I’m going to the clinic instead.
Besides, it’s not “polk” salad, it’s “poke” salad, as in “pokeweed.”
Interesting plant - ubiquitous weed and source of poke weed mitogen, a toxin of similar action to ricin but the leaves if harvested young and tender are good eatin’.
Not that I’ve ever done it and given the possibility of an unfortunate outcome be sure to consult an expert before going out to gather greens in your back yard.
I don’t know if anyone else has posted about Fly’s quote but you can take it from me that it comes from A Clockwork Orange by the late Anthony Burgess. An incredible book and the film is also first class though best viewed in cinema with a top of the range sound system as the soundtrack is awesome and very well judged.
Burgess was a huge fan of Joyce and in Orange devised his own language which I found a bit confusing for about one chapter but after that you get the hang of it and begin to speak it yourself when the opportunity arises - not that I am advocating a bit of the old ultra violence
I just couldn’t watch that movie. I tried, but it just made me so sick to watch it. I know the guy deserved it all (in a way…) but YUCK!!! I’m sure the book would be even worse for me, since books are much more in depth.
Anyway, just wanted to share
Brilliant as usual. Correct-a-mundo. Yes an excellent book and film. I read the book at least 14 times in my younger days. In fact I still say I’m on my oddy-knocky if I’m going to be alone.
“You kids have fun. I’ll be fine on my oddy-knocky.”
I heard that Burgess wrote the breaking and entering/ultra-violence scene while drunk because his wife had once been savagely raped and it was too emotionally painful. Is this true?
Random Notes, I’d also heard they borrowed a lot from Russian, ptitsa, dovotchka and so on.
What about ‘razoodocks’?
Once on holloween in New Orleans I came across some guys dressed in the height of nadsat fashion. When I started speaking nadsat to them they were amazed and grinned from ear to ear. I guess it made their night to have someone know how they were dressed.
Now I’ll have to change my signature again. That’s twice since the “pokeweed incident”.
My bloodpressure was normal (although my sugar levels, which I also took while at my grandmother’s house, were low but they always are).
I can’t afford just any doctor. I have to see a certain one because I can’t pay, and it takes a long time to get an appointment, so I called a pharmacist instead. Since I had not been taking my panic medicines regularly (forgetting three or four days a week sometimes) we hypothesised that their levels in my blood were getting low, and my body is used to their normal levels.
So I took double the normal dose, then started taking it regularly again in the mornings. I’m feeling completely better.
When I think back, the same way I was feeling when I first started taking them - my body’s drug levels were adjusting, and that’s what makes you feel like that.
My therapist thinks it’s a good thing that I forget to take my medicines - it shows that I’m not fretting and going crazy and depending on them.
