I am soooo sorry to hear about that! If I was there, I would rush over with chicken soup!
Definitely take it easy for a few days and don’t push things. Everyone is right when they say you’ll have emotional ups and downs. Get lots of rest!

Boy, that sounds scary. People running red lights can cause very, very serious accidents. I’m sure glad no one was injured and I’m really glad you had witnesses. My husband and I had a close call in a similar situation just a few weeks ago. I felt upset for a while afterwards, and we weren’t even in a crash!
I have always wondered what it felt like when the air bags go off. Do they hit you hard in the face? Maybe you were in a state of mind where you didn’t even notice. For some reason, I just would like to know ahead of time what to expect to feel.
Glad you’re OK. A similar thing happened to me just last Friday. A group of lads in a car were speeding down a side street and drove straight into the front of our car. They LAUGHED and drove off. 
Helpfully, they left their numberplate on the road for us. 
They won’t be laughing when the police find them!
We waited over an hour for a recovery truck to arrive as the front of our car was totalled, (who then said…“Oh, I can’t take you home…that’s not my job!”), so we had to empty the car of EVERYTHING, and stand waiting for a taxi. Our car is going to be written off. We’d only had it 8 weeks. I feel about 87 years old too. Aches and pains in places that I didn’t know I had places.
Friday was not good!

I got a nice reminder about my own bad habits the other day when I was impatient coming out of my street and pulled out in front of a car that was turning into my street only to just get out before the cars overtaking him hit the side of me 
I cursed my own impatience and told myself I was very lucky not to have a big dent in my car and my no claims bonus.
Just remember you have another mouth to feed , so keep yourself safe.
Oh dear, the nightmare.
I do hope the guy has to pay; it sounds likely. That would be a terrible experience.

Around here, a red light means 4 more cars try to get through. Tom got the driver’s side front fender clipped a few years ago. He definately had the green light, but hesitated a bit before going through the intersection. He then “caught” the guy out of the corner of his eye, and attempted to turn out of his way instead of going straight, but the guy still got him.
The guy that hit Tom readily admitted his fault, and was more upset that Noah was in the car and the car came very close to being pushed into a telephone poll on the passenger side.
BTW - no matter if they total or repair your car, INSIST that the other driver’s insurance pay for a rental car for you. The insurance company won’t TELL you they can do that, but they can and will if you insist on it.
Yeah, it seems more and more people are becoming more and more stupid. Just a sign of things to come ay? And to think, I always thought red meant redline…
Glad you’re okay. I too was a victim of a light runner car accident, only 5 days after christmas last year. Stupid little 16 year old kid wasn’t paying attention, driving his brand new car mommy and daddy bought him, thinking he owns the road, then bam, I apparantly ran into his road… Oh but it got better, cause after he hit me, (head on) he continued through the intersection, and hit a van behind and to my left with a family of 7. He gets out right away, yelling that “I hit him,” and going off about how he just got his new car from his parents, and how his new neon’s were toasted, all the while I’m still sitting in my car, hearing liquids leaking onto the ground, thinking to God this is it, my car’s gonna blow up with me inside it because I’m mental shock, and I can’t think straight enough to undo my seatbelt, then my door wouldn’t open due to the damage from the impact, so yeah… Nice people ay? Thing is, it was his fault, and you should’ve seen mommy and daddy try to tell the police officer that cited the kid that it was my fault… Even though I too, had 2 witnesses say that he ran the light. Blew my mind. What’s even worse, I bought my car with my own hard earned money, while mommy and daddy bought his. Nice ay? Makes me want to ride a bike.

Humans can be treacherous and duplicious. I’m delighted to hear you are in one piece, Congratulations, old chap, and long may it stay that way. People say “the truth will out” but if it happens when you need it, or in your lifetime, you are in luck.
Ya’ll are right about the way people drive.
Yet I would caution you against being overly cautious: be careful to avoid the self-fulfulling prophecy of being so scared that you are going to be in a crash that you actually cause the crash yourself.
By which I mean, specifically:
Don’t drive slower than everyone else and congest traffic behind you. This is particularly important on highways where the car just rounding the curve you’ve already gone through won’t know you are there till it’s too late. Related caution: don’t drive in the fast lane unless you are actually driving…you know…fast. Like, faster than everyone else, not just faster than the posted limit. Never never never try to use your car to slow other people down.
Don’t throw on your brakes when you see a yellow light if a car or cars is following you closely.
Particularly in the city, always accelerate as quickly as is safe relative to the cars in front of you; conversely, always brake as slowly as is safely possible, especially at first, to give the vehicles behind you as much warning as possible.
And this last one is really a pet peeve of mine: use the turn signals! They are there for a reason!!! Maybe one car in five actually signals a turn around here…very very dangerous. And don’t try to make an unprotected left turn in the middle of rush hour!!!..drive further down to the light and turn around, it’s quicker for you and safer for everyone else, and you’ll actually save gas (as well as maybe your life).

If the person in front of you turns on their turn signal, don’t change lanes quickly and accelerate so they can’t get over.
Finally, just a final thought:
I’ve been a passenger in the car with drivers who would white-knuckle and look terrified if they saw a police car.
Which is exactly the reaction you don’t want to have.
You can live over getting a ticket; you might not live over an accident. Therefore, if you have to chose one or the other, chose the ticket, every time.

Or at least selfserving, anyway. The yearly influx of university lemmings has run its course (and the attrition rate has thankfully done its bit as well - finally more parking for us real residents), and I can’t count the number of times this season I’ve almost been hit by people who couldn’t be bothered to honor a stop sign. And not all of them were on a cell phone. And I get looked at as if I’m the a$$h@le. Next year it’ll happen all over again. Yay.
Glad you’re in one piece, Congrats. I had a much less serious crunch-up (uni student, her fault. Her car was packed with friends and cellphones and yammering like a cage full of parakeets; small wonder she couldn’t be aware of her surroundings), and the accident rendered me gun-shy about driving and intersections for a while afterward, maybe a year or so. It surprised me, the collision having been so relatively minor. If that reaction happens to you, just be careful and keep going. It’ll wear off.
Heh. Makes you wonder what they’ve got to hide. If a cop is driving under the limit, I pass ‘em up. I’ve seen many a herd of drivers meekly following highway troopers and patrol cops driving under the limit. Frickin’ power trippers.
