You might consider a keyless flute to start. Keys aren’t necessary for th vast majority of Irish music.
If you get a keyless Burns you can have keys added later. If you want Mopane you’re looking at $450 for a keyless and a short wait. It only took Casey about a week to put the keys on mine when I sent it back.
I already have a few keyless Flutes that is why I was looking into Keys these are 2 PVCs (one “Folkwinds” and one made by Doug which is the one I use I don’t like the other 2 that much) and a Hall Crystal. The more I think about it the more I think I would rather have a R & R style rather than a Pratten style the Hevia is a Pratten so I am back and forth between that and the Boxwood R & R Burns today I am thinking the Burns is the right one and I think that might be my final decision.
The image is no longer available but Casey Burns posted a pic of a special flute he made on the Flute Porn thread. Since you’re interested in Galician pipes it may be something to consider. Here’s what he wrote in the post.
Casey emailed me on Friday out of the blue too now that is customer service I guess he saw this thread and got my email from here. I am definatley getting the Boxwood 4 key and I decided to move Flute to second on my list.
