I’m in Vegas for a trade show and there’s a Star Trek thing happening here at the Hilton. Anyway, not much time now, so here’s a brief description:

  • About the right length for a D or Eb whistle.
  • Steeply conical.
  • Square fipple.
  • Made of brass, with nickel tuning slide, tasseled.
  • Small equidistant finger holes (i.e.: not really tuned to a scale).
  • And as reported elsewhere, it’s not hollow at all, it’s filled with a black resin. In other words, it doesn’t play, just a prop.

Glad I escape going to PMA next month…

PS: Glauber: you’re at the Hilton, just by the Convention Center? Don’t say you’re attending the National Automobile Dealers’ Association?

I went to the Star Trek Experience in the Vegas Hilton a few years ago…and what a jolly good time I had.

Wow! Cool! Thanks for telling us about it. I’d like to go down to the Hilton there one of these days…ride the “Star Trek Experience”…and I just got an email saying they are launching a new attraction, “Borg 4D,” down there also soon. The email subject was “PREPARE TO BE ASSIMILATED!”

Yes, the Star Trek Experience thing is wonderful. The ride is really great, can’t tell much about it without spoiling the surprises, though.

They were probably afraid Patrick Stewart would accidently exhale at the wrong time and ruin a take :wink:

You know what’s always surprised me, though, is that Clarke’s or someone similar didn’t jump on the bandwagon and make some “genuine Ressikan flutes!” for sale at Star Trek conventions. Hey…some of you whistle smiths out there…that could be a niche market for you!
