I only love you for the absurdity of your bombast

This poster was designed by Beatrice Warde as a sample sheet for a typeface (Monotype Perpetua Caps) designed by the sculptor/type designer/monument carver Eric Gill.

Edited: Ooops, that face isn’t Perpetua. This isn’t the famous Beatrice Warde poster at all; it’s a Beatrice Warde imposter!!

It’s brilliant marketing. Making a poster keeps it out of the file of specimen sheets and onto the wall to be seen by the staff and customer every day. Smooth!

Yes, I am a pressman , you can also thank us for air conditioning.

Is this the real one?

The sign should read:

Warning: Grouches ahead.

It’s the solvent for cleaning the presses. Makes you cranky and goofy.

Yeah, that and the knowledge level between pressman and customer. I really don’t blame 'em, you know. And nowadays, they have to be computer experts to boot.

that is certainly , less than kind :poke:

c’mon arch: In yer heart, you know we’re right. I know all about printers. Never met a non-grouchy one yet, well… one guy was taciturn, which was like a giant smiley face for the profession.

They live within the Cult of Impending Perfection, except experience has taught them of the utter worthlessness of most of the people who ever show up with their ill-considered, poorly composed projects needed ASAP. They are the forerunner perhaps to the modern IT person who terrorizes most office buildings, but they are grimier, more surly and as stated before, under the influence of any number of toxic substances in their environment.

What can I say? I like printers.

yes, ok grr, you are right. I , we are . I guess just reading it,like someone saying " putting on some weight huh" or getting kinda white on top.

you forgot caffeine freaked, opiniated, dirty fingernailed ,
I comes from having to please too many people. and words like ," its not as solid as on my screen :swear: can you put my job on next,

Let it out, buddy, thatsss right…you go right ahead…I’m the meek customer who tries to understand everything before I darken yer door and would rather die than ask a stupid question. Which is nearly impossible considering what you know about actual production.

. Of course, nowadays the traitorous cowards are sending everything to India via pdfs and puttin’ you on out the street…

Plenty of reason to remain grouchy.

It’s closer to the example I found in a bio of Gill, but there are small differences. The original had a star where that wingding is, with another under the M of trumpet. The font’s right, tho. This one’s actually better laid out than the original; in it the two lines of ‘not to perish’ are set in much smaller type. It might be necessary to provide an example at that size, but it’s less readable.

The S in perpetua is oddly shaped, I notice; the lower counter is smaller than the upper one. usually the opposite is the case.

LOL Im work for a non-profit, so no paying customer asks me anything. I have 100 people , bringing me their jobs. Each one to them is important, and to me too.

I guess I dont like being called “goofy” , I would not call IT guys , a bunch of computer geeks, even if some are. My best bud is a IT guy & a agnostic, “accidental metacommentary”
My “paying” customers although few , get choice treatment. I understand where my bread is buttered.
my 2 last cents , please note most of my post contain hyperbole,
