I recently broke the thing I have used for awhile to oil the insides of my wooden flutes. I need a replacement. Needs to be long enough for a low D and it needs to hold a piece of cloth that I can drench with oil and swab out the flutes. Anybody know of where I can get a good one?

I just checked online at Mars Music and they have a stainless steel rod w/ loop on the end that looks like the tool you described… it’s a Trombone Cleaning Rod, Model#: 5259, part number#: 668442, sells for $6

I use one of those long dehumidifiers. These look like a long skinny “mop” or a bottle brush. The mop strings are cotton and can hold oil easily. They are cheap and can be disposed of but are also washable with a little dish soap.
This trombone cleaning rod looks almost identical to the swab-tool I got for my pistol. I don’t remember what I paid for it..wonder which is cheaper?

A gun cleaning rod would work great because accesories are available that could be used to clean/oil all types of whistles.
For pistol cleaning I use a sheep wool swab that is like a brush made out of wool. I use it to oil the inside of the barrel instead of the cloth through the loop attachment. I think one of thos would work great in a whistle because it would touch the entire inner surface. They are available in different sizes for different guns. One for a ten gauge shotgun should work fine on a Low D for example.
Brushes are also available that would work great for brightening up the inner part of the tube on metal whistles.
Now I can clean the whistle when I clean a gun. I’ll just make sure the whistle isn’t loaded first.
