I may have written a hornpipe...

I’m not really sure. I didn’t set out to compose something; I was just playing around and it came out. Quite possibly I’ve heard it before, or it’s just a compilation of various other hornpipe parts.

So did I make this up, or have you all heard it before?

Hi jen f

Nice playing and nice tune.

David

I like it! Any chance of putting on paper any time soon?

Say, that’s lovely! And very nice playing, too. A quick search of my tune resources turns up nothing like it. So congratulations … you probably wrote a great hornpipe!

What do you want to call it? Meanwhile:

I know what you mean about writing tunes. Whenever I try to noodle out something new, it often turns out to be something I’ve heard before or very similar. But this time, it looks like you’ve done it.

Can anyone recomend a program to translate ABC into sheet music? I have tried abcedit and I can’t get it to work on abc files other than the collections that come with it. For example MTguru’s abc of Jennifer’s Hornppe.

Jennifer,
Thanks for sharing that! It is next on my list of tunes to learn.

Normally I’d put it in here: http://www.concertina.net/tunes_convert.html , but it claims there’s an error in the ABC.

Kevin Krell

I added a line, to MTguru’s abc, before the first line “X:70”
then it works in the Concertina Converter. So it looks like this:

X:70
T:Jennifer’s Hornpipe
R:Hornpipe
M:4/4
K:G
(3gfe|dBAB G2FG|AGFE D2 (3DEF|G2GB dBgd|edcB A2 (3gfe|

Nice tune, Jen!!

Exactly where I go, and the same result.

Thanks for the positive comments, everyone!

And thanks for putting it in ABC for me–I guess I should learn how to do that at some point.

Jennifer

great. sounds like a hornpipe to me

very good, cant even tell that it was made in modern day.

Thanks Greg.

Jen, I took the Tionól course work to heart and learned it by ear! YAY me! Yay you! Let us know what you end up naming it, but for now I’ve got it as “Jennifer’s hornpipe”.

It’s dandy!

A beaut tune jen,
well done, you should be very proud, its a keeper,
may your tune be played for centuries to come,
Post it on the session and it may well just do that
Regards
David

Somebody please tell me the correct way to enter an author’s name into the ABC coding for a tune.

Very nice indeed!
I once “wrote” a great jig, only to notice later that it had already been written-- The Kesh!

Found it. Author’s name goes into the code after the title and before the tune itself.

That is so cool! I bought a penny whistle today (for 10 bucks, but whatever) and I played your tune. What fun! It’s such a nice tune.

I love this little whistle I’ve been playing now for 10 minutes.

Nice tune!

I’ve got a name for my jig “The Fireant Jig.” Now I just need the tune …
