I love my blackbird too!!! It is so wonderful and beautiful sounding!!!
It plays nicely with other whistle players too.
Thank you Jerry!

Grr… I just spent a couple hundred on whistles, an additional couple hundred on some office equipment… I’ve been wanting to get a Blackbird, but I’ve managed to stave off the surrounding WhOA. Now you people have to come in here and parade the thing around! Stop it!

You know it’s only a matter of time…

It really, truly is. I have absolutely no doubt in my mind that I will end up with a Blackbird before too long.

Not to make anyone’s WHOA worse, but today my Blackbird finally landed, and this thread seemed like the most appropriate place to for me burble on about how much I’m loving it. It’s as though I was debriefed under truth serum, made to spill my guts on exactly what I’d want from my ideal whistle, and now here it is, delivered. How cool is that?

I live in an apartment complex made of ticky-tack, and, worse yet, live right next door to the building manager, so I like my whistles on the not-so-loud side, and find the volume of the Blackbird quite comfortable in that context. One of my favorite aspects of whistling is the twinkly sound a chiffy whistle gives when a tune dances around the upper octave, and the Blackbird lets me play up there without feeling the urgent need for any sort of hearing protection (contrast the many whistles that rise to a vengeful shriek on high A and B). Also good for me is the lowish air requirement, since I was a smoker for a long time and no longer have the robust lungs I was born with.

If I were to compare it to my other whistles, i’d say it’s like a cross between my Oak and my Hoover Whitecap. In fact, the only other time I’ve been so delightfully pleased with new whistle acquisition was when I got my Whitecap.

Lets hear it for the girls !!!

whooooo!

You can also play it in a car without killing the driver - and eventually yourself. (you have to have an understanding driver)

+1. Sweet tone, spot on in tune.

My new favorite, for less than 20% of what I spent on my last Chieftain…

agreed! First whistle I’ve had that is really in tune.

WARNING Slight thread revival.

OK, so, my Blackbird arrived today. (Told you I’d get one sooner or later…)

My word, this whistle is the picture of perfection. I don’t have any great collection of whistles, mind you, but in the small collection that I do have, nothing plays like this thing does. This is the easiest playing whistle I’ve tried to date. It’s incredibly easy to hit the second octave A, B, and C#. So little breath is needed to play the Blackbird.

It’s an incredible piece of work, Jerry. I knew people liked them, and the tone always sounded great in recordings, but I did not expect what I got. Truly, truly, this is genius. When I have an extra $80 to drop on whistles again, I’ll be picking up the C and Eb versions, no doubt. Thank you for such a fine instrument.
