On my way home from St Louis to Toronto, I stopped in Fort Wayne and met Patrick O’Riordan…just to see how my whistles are coming along ha ha.
What a lovely gentleman is Patrick O’Riordan! He showed me his shop where his whistle wonders are wrought. I saw a number of whistles ready to go out to some lucky folk. Then he asked if I had my D with me, which I did. He told me to go get it. He poked around the shop and came up with a C tube and fit it to my D. Then he GAVE it to me to say thanks for dropping by. Needless to say I was thrilled to bits.
I also got to try his wooden whistles and now if course I want one, or three or four.
“The O’Riordan’s” was the name of the worst TV soap opera ever. It was put on by Radio Telefis Eireann. It rivalled “The Kennedies of Castleross” for sheer awfulness.
I’ve got an E/F on order too – Loretto basically said, you ought to order everything you don’t have, and then let me try her whistles until I was convinced (which took about two minutes, really).
I’m not sure exactly what I’m going to do about Goderich this summer; I’m going to be in Newfoundland the first couple of days of the college. If the classes look really cool, I may try to catch the last two days of it. I’ll be at the festival for sure, though.
Mr. O’Riordan was thoughtful enough to call me and , unfortunately, give me the news of my 3 year wait. Ugh.
I’ll post again in 3 years with the joyful news, I’m sure !!
