I just got my Generations

Hi all,
I just received my Generation pennywhistles and I have a few questions. Firstly, I have no idea what the fingerings are for the Eb and F - they came with a chart, but from what I can tell, it doesn’t give the fingerings for the Eb and F. Secondly, on the F, when I do this fingering: xooooo, on the second octave, it makes a shrill buzzing sound - do all Gererations do this? As well, where could I find a fingering chart?

Thanks so much in advance,
Sara

The fingering is the same as on a D whistle. The tone you produce with each fingering is one half-step higher than on the D for the Eb, and a small third higher for the F.

So:
xxx xxx is D on a D, Eb on an Eb, F on an F.
xxx xx0 is E on a D, F on an Eb, G on a F.
etc.

As for the shrill buzzing sound, check the windway and fipple blade for burrs. Consider doing some tweaking…

Thanks for explaining the fingerings for me! I looked up what tweaking is - I don’t know if I’m experienced enough in pennywhistles to go and tweak one! I’d probably for sure mess it up - I don’t know. Thanks for the suggestion though!

Sara, Very cool you received your whistles.

Unfortunately I have messed up the first few trys by going over board with tweaking a whistle. I wouldn’t recomend it unless your able to buy a new one right away.

You might want to try different ways of breathing into it. I was kind of confused when I first picked one up. It’s taken me a bit of time but I can now play a Generation that once was shrill and buzzed. And I didn’t tweak it. I just blow different into it now.

Experiment around. If you still feel there might be something wrong with the whistle, ask the store if you can exchange them.

Enjoy

Hey Jack,
How are yeh? Thanks, I’m really excited that I received my whistles! Yeah, if I ever do any tweaking it will be on a cheap whistle that I can afford to loose. I think the way I was breathing in to it was the problem - I’ve been working on my breathing whilst I play and now it doesn’t make a buzzy sound. What key is your Generation in?

Sara

I have them in C, D, Eflat and Bflat. I like the C and Eflat the best.
