I don’t mind birthdays. I don’t mind getting older. I love the top shelf bourbon that my grandson gets me (the rest of the year the bottles I get usually proudly proclaim their 3 year aging process). But I hate parties.

I actually really love my birthday. Maybe that will change when I hit 40? 
I have a favorite sweater older than some of you.
A parent of some of my students, nice older gent, recently found out how old I was and said, “I have underwear older than that!”
I’ll take the old sweater, thanks very much.
