I did it! I did it!

I played on STAGE yesterday! It was a big Retro-Love In at Deer Mountain. I played with my back to the audience, wouldn’t go near a mic, but did just fine! There was only one person in the audience that was not a musician. I played with a folksinger. And I did it in spite of all the incense burning and stinking up the place!

Anyhow, to my ears these little birdie touches I put on his songs here and there yesterday were perfect. I carried a song melody while he kept his harmonica simple, and played a real good bird on the chorus…which he sings " I feel like a bird, I feel like a bird, I feel like a bird, I feel like a bird on the wing." Being a bird is fun! I played around his singing, nary a sour note, but anticipated notes, trilled on 'em, did some cuts and rolls and played between the lines and created a little musical anarchy while I was at it. People said they could hear it just fine, and he had a plugged in acoutic guitar! Snerk! It was just soft, but nifty…I asked him Saturday night if I could play with him on three songs…he said “Great!” And I did IT! I need to practice sneaking up on mics a bit at a time! I also frosted some cookies while I was at it! Thanks everybody for being Chiff and Fipple! Oh yeah, I gave away 27 whistles! There are no laws in Deadwood forbidding giving away stuff in the streets, but you can bet there will be soon!

Congrats Anna! I’m glad you did so wonderfully!

It’s really fun playing in a live performance, isn’t it? I know I wouldn’t trade the experience for the world.

What kind of whistle do you give away?

I routinely send out care packages to troops deployed in places like Kosovo and am always looking for small things that I can send a lot of. Usually I send video tapes, cds, paperback books, decks of cards and lots and lots of candy bars! But now, since I’ve gotten hooked on the whistle, I have been thinking of sending some of them.

Yay Anna! Thanks for sharing the joy–don’t let 'em take it away!!!

SweetTones, I just pass 'em on, looking forward to the new Megs! I’ll get some from Thom when they get in! Usually I don’t give whistles to anyone who doesn’t say they want one, otherwise it’s just a toy with very little value! I have people coming up to me at the Love-In saying they’d hread throught the grapevine I has some whistles to spare. One rock and roller said he’d wanted one his whole life! The people and kids I give the whistles to either get THAT look on their faces or ask for one…Hey, PATI, how many D whistles do you have NOW, grrl!

Ah, a good point. I have already got another Feadóg on the way…maybe I’ll just drop it in the box with a note that if any other soldier wants one, to let me know and I’ll send them one.

It sounds like you have a great time. I still don’t have the courage to play anywhere outside but in my back yard. But a little girl peered over my fence one day and smiled at me! She’s done it a couple of times since. I bet she’d like one…maybe I’ll give the Feadóg to her and wait for the megs to come out for the troops.

It was fun! It’s taken me a while to get to the point of being even able to get on stage without passing out! Now I get to practice sneaking up on mics! Maybe someday! I got my first whistle from a friend in Australia!

Good! I’m glad for you. I can’t play in front of people very well. Actually, I can, but only when they’re not sitting there looking at me. I’ve been thinking about playing low whistle at a few restaurants or something like that, because I hope people would be looking at their food or each other instead of me. But I’m glad you did well in front of everybody.

You go Girl!

Proud o’ ya!!!

Wow! That’s so cool! I would love to do that so much…but I’d be jumping th gun a bit as I’ve only just started learning! :stuck_out_tongue:

Way to go, Anna! Stage jitters can be a bear but just remember: YOU know how it’s supposed to sound, noone else does so have fun with it. A friend in church recently approached me asking where he could find a whistle, so I gave him my old Sweetone and a brass Parky I had made. Keep the good karma rolling…

That is so way cool, Dave!
