I think I can play it about half speed. It’s called ‘My darling asleep’
Just thought I’d tell you!

Great tune, Taxman! And isn’t it lovely at a slow speed. . .sort of dreamy and peaceful. The first place I ever heard it was on Jay Ungar and Molly Mason’s Lover’s Waltz album…played nice and slow.
That’s a lovely jig Taxman, but, ooh, I wss born under the sign of the Pedant, it’s not a song, it’s a tune!!!
No words, no song, no woman, no cry.
It was one of my early ones too (but I can’t play it now!). I have it in “100 Essential Irish Session Tunes” by Dave Mallinson Publications. Where did you get the tune from, out of interest?
So sorry, I’ll just have to think of some words for you.

If you don’t have the Mally book, try to get it. It’s very good!
Good work TaxMan! Amazing feeling, isn’t it?
The slow part brings up a good point. Even if you can play a tune really fast, sometimes it’s very instructive to try it nice and slowly once in a while. You may hear things in there that you miss at high speed. Some reels and jigs that you normally hear at breakneck pace sound terrific in their own right when played in a more relaxed pace. Try it.
Good job, Taxman! And so the Magic begins!
Congratualations!! And, nevermind the playing it slow… I like to do that not only when trying to learn a new tune, but just for grins on any given tune… turns out many of them sound quite nice…
Take a listen to the Cheiftains version of ‘Dunmore Lassies’ sometime, if you can’t find that, I patterned a post of mine after their style on the tin whistle tune site.
Of course the Chieftains version is a wee bit better than my own!
but it’s really cool how they start it REALLY slow and beautiful, and take it up faster a bit at a time. They never get it to break-neck speed, but it sounds perfect!!
Good job, and take care.
John
Congrats Taxman! As we say here in LA, ‘My Darling, A Sheep’, a great tune. Why do we say that? Not sure, haven’t ever seen a sheep in these parts. lol
Where can I get the sheet music for my Darling asleep ??
