Must be the lake effect…
I originally posted asking for a someone to slip me a free copy of the sheet music for “how great thou art” and “a mighty fortress” suitable for a D whistle but after 30 people looked at it and no-one responded I pulled it. I guess I was a little convicted because these songs are copywritten which is why I am having such a hard time finding a free copy. So in addition to feeling like a hypocrite I also feel like a mope because I couldn’t even delete my post properly.

Aaron,
Your symptoms are not of mope or hypocrite. There are many here who share your love of whistles and hymns. I search the hymn books new and old for anything written in one and two sharps. I’m pretty sure most of the hymn writers would love for you to have free copies of their tunes. I’m also pretty sure the One they were written for would be glad, too. But just in case you better consult some of the copyright experts here.
The number of hits on your “empty” page proves folks are paying attention!

Hey, here is an idea for you. You can get a lot (probably All) of your favotie hymns in MIDI format. Then you can open them with your favorite MIDI editor (like Cakewalk) and transpose them to the key of you favorite whistle. Then you can print out a copy of the transposed Hymn and Wha la. Favorite hymns and no violated copyrites.

Yea, that had occured to me to get the MIDI and use it to get the notation, which I probably will do to test myself but first I am multi-tasking. I listen to the song and then try to play it on the whistle by ear and THEN go to the finaly note pad and try to work out the notation. I am accomplishing the following:
learning to play by ear
learning to write music (if I can notate someone else’s song from my head, I can notate a melody that pops in there too)
learning the songs.
Mack:
Thank you for the kind words

Bagfed, I realize this doesn’t give you the sheet music you are looking for, but a while back there was a great thread on whistle friendly worship songs. It gave a lot of great suggestions. You can go to that thread by clicking here.

Hey Aaron,
It wasn’t a problem, just kinda funny, especially with all of the replies to a blank post . . . we are a peculiar lot!

30 views before anyone responds is not unusual. Sometimes the number is much higher. Truth be told, my posts are usually ignored entirely. So next time, be a little more patient. ![]()
