Hygrometer recommendation please.

I want to replace the cheap, non-calibratable, pet-store hygrometers I’ve been using, with something better. Does anyone have a hygrometer that they would recommend? I do like the idea of a hygrometer that doesn’t require batteries but, if an electronic model is consistantly more acurate, I think I’d make an exception. Or I might buy one of each type, as long as they’re both well regarded. Thirty dollars is about the most I want to pay.

I found this weather-centric retailer which offers a big assortment of hygrometers. If anyone on the forum is familiar with any of the models shown on that site, I would love to read what you have to say about it/them. I’m not trying to promote the retailer:

At your convenience, could you measure and post the dimensions? I am trying to find a thin/flat/small hygrometer to fit inside a Northwinds case.

Thanks, I just didn’t look far enough to see the measurements. 1/4" deep will indeed be lots of room.

I was doing a bit more looking around for hygrometers, and found this one:

It has a small remote probe and is designed for use in lizard/snake terrariums and would be just about perfect to use in a Tupperdor.

It’s still 6 dollars and you can recalibrate it with a tiny screwdriver at the back. Google for recalibration- easiest is wrap a wrung out washcloth or small flannel around it, and it should read 95%.

Hi - …just wanted to throw my 2 cents in… I’m a piano tuner and deal with humidity issues A LOT. I have never found any consistency in ANY hygrometers, but the closest are the digital ones. The pet & cigar ones can be off by as much as 30 degrees (both directions); the digital ones can be off by as much as 10. I currently use this “General” brand, http://www.testersandtools.com/General-Tools-DTH700-Thermo-Hygrometer.php, because it is recommended by one of my suppliers. I don’t know that it’s the most accurate, but I hope it’s close. Hope this is helpful. :wink:
