How to Start a Session(???)

Hi there.
I know, I know, it’s OT, but I don’t know how many people check out the IRTrad forum so here it is.
Any suggestions on starting a slow session? We have a place, and apparently alot of interest… the problem is that most of the people are in the same boat as me, that is, they haven’t worked up the courage to play in public with others.
Is it possible to start a session with mostly beginners or is it doomed to fail?
