How to get best C from a Copeland high D

I still getting to grips with my Copeland D (only had it a couple of weeks), and I’m still not overly happy with the C natural I get.

I finger it oxxooo but I’ve tried other C fingerings such as oxxxoo and oxoxxx and none of them sounds quite right to me.

Any suggestions from those of you who are experienced with Copelands.

I think it must be me rather than the whistle because I have the same issue with SweetTone whistles.

Hi Champ,

On most whistles the cross fingered C-nat is only in tune when you don’t blow too hard.
So when you put as much air pressure on that as on the other notes, it will most likely be sharp.

One option is to blow a little softer, another is to become a master-half-holer…

Hi Champ, I dont have a copeland but find that oxxxox produces a good nat c on my susato and kerry whistles.Hope this helps.

I’ve reached the conclusion that
sooner or later one must learn to
half hole. One advantage is that
often it drastically simplifies
fingering.
