We really need help in contacting a local branch of the NRA. Can anyone help us with this? We have this really serious problem that we need to deal with and though they might be able to help find a solution locally.
Oh, not THAT NRA! ![]()
I meant Note Readers Anonymous!
They can have my sheet music when they pry it from my cold dead fingers.

Speaking of which⦠the NRA (the real one) is pushing very hard and spending loads of money to get the 1994 assault weapons ban repealed. It stands a fair chance of achieving this goal, whith a currently sympathetic Congress. I think whether one is in favor of stricter gun control or not, one will agree that no one really needs to pack an AK-47 or any weapon designed for warfare in order to achieve personal protection. Most police departments across the country agree.
I will not post a direct link (because I am not sure what the Board policy is on this), but you can visit a site called āstopthenra.comā and sign a petition that will be submitted to Congress in order to support upholding the ban.
PS: Dale, please let me know if I am in breach of any rule with this post.

you may want to read through the AWB, all it really does is keep people from importing rifles with a bayonet lug or pistol grip, the reason there was a sunset clause in there was because it was a test law, the idea was that if it didnāt show a drop in crime it would be repealed. in the ten years since itās been around thereās been no drop in crime pertaining to those weapons covered by the law, of course it was almost 0 to begin with though. if you look at gun crime statistics the vast majority of them are committed with handguns and shotguns, less than a tenth of a percent are committed with semi-auto military rifles.
the AWB has nothing to do with full-auto weapons, those are restricted under the GCA and the NFA and since the passing of those laws only one crime has been committed with a legally owned machine gun.
Iām not sure why so many people are complaining about AR-15s and AK clones, people make them out to be these killing machines but in reality theyāre less powerful than the majority of hunting riflels many of which are also semi-automatic and can fire just as fast but with a lot more punch.

Iām not sure why anybody would want to own any of those in the first placeā¦? My opinion has always been: if you want to play with guns, join the army. But thatās me.

I noticed that, but couldnāt find a local chapter of Note Readers Anonymouse (or any chapter for that matter), so decided Iād assume that part was a joke of some kind and that Steven really was interested in contacting the local NRA for some reason. ![]()

But theyāre ugly and nasty and scare me, so of course theyāre more dangerous. ![]()
Folks who live in hunting country, even if they donāt hunt, tend to view guns as tools.
Folks who donāt tend to ascribe all kinds of magical properties to guns. Most journalists tend fall into this category, and the news stories they write tend to reflect their biases. Which most of them honestly donāt believe they have.
I grew up in hunting country; I donāt hunt today, but I have in the past. And Iām totally bemused by the amount of out-and-out wrong āfactsā I see given in any story involving firearms. And if you try to correct the errors when someone breathlessly reports the latest āguns are terribleā story you get accused of lying.
I wonāt take this any further; emotions run too high on this issue. Radio talk show hosts say that the three topics that draw the most - and angriest - callers are abortion, religion, and gun control. Probably because peopleās views on any or all off them wonāt be changed by additional information.
