I like to clean some film negatives, which have some sort of glue bits on them. The glue was part of adding a paper strip to the film, done when the film was developed, some 30years ago. The paper strip was intended to mark which negatives should be used for additional reprints later. I can peel the paper strip away, plus a very thin red plastic strip backed with this soft gluee stuff which was used to attach the paper to the film, like scotch tape, but much nastier, as sticky glue stays on when the thing is peeled away.
I need to get the paper and glue strip off in order to feed the film strips through my little photo scanning box, which creates digital images.
I tried lint-free cloth with lcd screen cleaning fluid, but this works only partly.
What kind of cleaning solvents are safe to use on photographic film?
