How Thick is the Wall of Your Wooden Whistle?

Ok, just a easy question For those that own wooden whistles, make wooden whistles, have a passing association with wooden whistles, want to make a guess, post without reason, or only have a functioning “g” and “e” key.

How thick is the wall of your whistle, both at the top, bottom, and else wear :slight_smile:

The one I have has a 1/8" wall thickness, and is cyllindrical.

What kind of whistle is that, Walden?

And others, if you post the wall thickness, please say what kind of whistle. I’m very interested and appreciate the information.

Chris Abell high D in blackwood, 2mm, cylindrical bore. I was amazed at how thin it was when I got it.

My Grinter cocobolo Low D
(still mine – pictured @ http://chiffboard.mati.ca/viewtopic.php?t=11538&sid=53c860114cf8d7d13cf781037d9e3a18 )
has a cylindrical Ø 22 mm bore with constant 2.5 mm walls.

Rosewood G “Liberty whistle” (i.e. from Brittany) by Y. Le Coant tapers from Ø 16 mm at the tuning slide (head section being a cylinder) down to Ø ca. 15 mm. Given the tuning assembly, end flare bulges reinforcing the wood, the walls vary from 6 mm to 2.5 mm (at the R1 hole).

Same “Liberty whistle” blackwood low D bore tapers to Ø 20 mm down to Ø 17 mm. Walls ca. 4 mm at the thinnest point to 6 mm at the cork joint. It is quite heavy.

Mine are .656" OD, .500 ID, for a thickness of .078. Same at top and bottom. The places where I put metal fittings are thinned out to accomodate the fittings, keeping the ID the same. Where there is a metal fitting AND a tuning slide tube, the walls get frighteningly thin…
