I am wondering…taking lessons and first time I come across double cuts/ cassadhs to learn.
Cannot say I like learning them (hard times with it).
How often are these used in irish music…mostly it is cuts and rolls, isn’t it?
Any tips on how to learn them more easily?

For what its worth, i believe all ornamentation has its place, a well executed cut roll cran or double cut (grace notes) can take an ordinary tune and make it into something special,
Won’t happen overnight but it will happen,
my advice is to take it slow, try some slower tunes and try to incorporate the ornamentation into it.
I personally took planxty irwin and used selectively the double cuts / grace notes to good effect as a starting point when i was first learning,
I would not try to over do ornamentation, as many people on this forum have said before,
often less is more, and i have to agree,
ornamentation is the icing on the cake so to speak, but first the cake must be good

It’s hard to overdo the icing if you make cream cheese icing.
I scrape the sugary crap off my cake.
I use them lots, especially in waltzes and slower tunes like planxtys and airs.
I first learned the double cut in the the 4/4 version of Star of the County Down.
Boy, I wish I could play that with someone here sometime, but everybody here knows the old time waltz version.
Work on all of them, then play “surprise the listener” by doing something differently next turn.
I think I heard a double-cut G yelp on the pipes on one of my recordings…
Sometimes I “surprise the player”, sometimes pleasantly, sometimes not…
Everything to excess… Except for moderation, of course.
