How 2-3

I know this may sound stupid…but when I put up a photo of whistles and players anywhere on the net ,it comes out on the screen really large.
So,how does one reduce the file size of a pic without using photoshop?is that possible without loosing any of the pic. I don’t yet have photoshop.
I am using windows xp.
Any ideas.
Phil.

Hi Phil,

You could open the file with MS Paint and resize it there - but a far, far easier solution is to download the free image-viewing program irfanview. It’s very user-friendly and will allow you to quickly and easily resize photos.

Here’s a link to check it out and download it if you like: http://www.irfanview.com/

Edit: Resized in about 3 seconds with irfanview:

By the way, thanks for all the great videos on your site. I hope I’ve not eaten too much of your bandwidth watching all the Brian Finnigan stuff you have up.

Hi Phil,
This link probably doesn’t work, because it’s a bmp and should be jpg

When he first edited in the pic, he had it in properly as a (large, table-breaking) .jpg - which I saved, resized and reposted to illustrate how quickly and simply irfanview worked. Not sure why he went back in and edited the extension as a .bmp. :stuck_out_tongue:

I was sucessful at reducing the pic and loading onto myserver and them putting it on my NEWS section but I cound not bring it across to here.It converted into a bmp file .
How can I keep it as a jpg when converting?
Phil

After resizing it, go to “File”, then “Save As”. It’ll give you a drop-down menu to designate which file type you want to save it as.

Here’s how it looks with irfanview:

Well Buckeye67 I owe you a pint or a whistle, please send me your post address and I’ll send you over something nice.

This has been great to work this through so fast. Her is a pic of the Busmans holiday in Gibraltar.

Hey that could be my new logo and motto: Busman-- Like a Rock!

Or “Busman – Between a Rock and a Soft Place.”

I use it to shrink file size, create thumbnails, and edit photos. Works great!
