it sounds like a great time.
Did you guys play some tunes that all know? which tunes were they? or did each play tunes that he know?
There is so much energy radiating from a table with a bunch of good flutes all ready to be played
Eilam, yea, we played a few sets - 'twas fun. Only tunes I recall by name were the Roaring Barmaid (a.k.a. The Butlers of Glen Avenue), Sliabh Russell, and that F# minor slip jig, whose name escapes me, that comes after on the Lunasa Otherworld CD.
Mary, it was a pleasure to get to play on your son’s horn - maybe I could bring my horn and a duet book next time and we can have our own little jam session
I seriously do think that if you take the instrument over to H&H and just say, ‘Here, fix on this what needs to be fixed & give it a thorough going-over’, i.e., clickity valves, stuck tuning slides, dents, etc. etc.,that your son will be much better off. You don’t want the instrument to be impeding his progress in any way at all. I’m serious though when I say that if he’s looking for private lessons, please don’t hesitate to contact me.
The O’Riordans were an honor to play - I’ve only read about how great they are, and they really are as amazing as everyone says! Thanks so much for letting try them, and also for letting me borrow the flute! I played on it for awhile when I got home last night and made some progress in tone production, I think - now notes will actually come out! I woke up this morning & immediately got it out to see if I could do it again, and things were even better! I’m just trying to get some muscle memory going - it really is just like playing the horn, in that every note has a ‘sweet spot’. Once again, the instrument is a complete honor to learn on, and I thank you so much for providing it so willingly.
I hope we can do it again soon!
Ben
Thanks Mary for the use of your lovely home. We had a great time and hope to do it again! I’ll post a few of my photos when I have time.
