I have a fragment of a hornpipe floating around my head (amidst the dust bunnies, etc.) and was hoping someone could give me a tune name so that I can chase down the rest of the tune.

After listening to your fragment djm, this larger fragment came into my head.

Is it part of the hornpipe you’re after?

What the other parts are or the name is i don’t know but it may help (or it may not)

I not used to using ABC format but I had a stab at the notes you have written down. The first few bars remind me very much of the set dance ‘King of the Fairies’

Thanks, Dave! That’s the beastie I want. I have been looking for a good hornpipe to follow The Fairy Queen, and the B part of this tune kept coming to mind, but I didn’t have a name for it.

UK Joe, follow the link that Dave has provided above. It takes you to a site called The Session. What I do with the ABC from The Session is to highlight and copy it, then take it to the Tune-o-Tron on the Concertina.net site (http://www.concertina.net/tunes_convert.html), paste it into the box, and it comes back with both sheet music and a MIDI file. I then play the MIDI file in Windows Media Player to see if it is the tune/version I am looking for. The tunes are volunteered by various members there, and sometimes the version is great and sometimes it … well … isn’t so great. By the way, you will also find King of the Fairies there, and you will see that it doesn’t sound anything like The Belfast.
