Home Metal Etching

Anybody have experience with home metal etching kits like the Etch-O-Matic?
I’d really like to etch my logo and the key on my new aluminum whistles, but I fear it will be far more difficult than what is demonstrated in the online videos… isn’t it always?

I have only ever used the bamboo back-scratchers … oh, etch … sorry.

I have no experience with etching kits, but aluminum is a really good metal to start on. It’s etched by even fairly mild bases, meaning you can use Draino*, and then clean your pipes afterward.

*the old Draino, which was a coarse powder, had flakes of aluminum foil in it as an accelerant – even though the aluminum took some strength from the draino, the reaction created so much heat that it caused the draino to act faster.
