hohner 'C' whistle on ebay

Wonder what this one will go for?

Probably about $50.

It’s overpriced already as it is.

Probably so as an instrument but not as a collector’s piece for a kwela fan.

Can you imagine how valuable it would be if Elvis had played it?

Unimagineable!!! But only desirable to some!! :astonished:

Its now up to $43 dollars.

And that’s presumably without an Elvis connection!!

Who is this Elvis you speak of? Some sort of leader?

For a while he was a Forty Niner quarterback. I think he’s retired from football now.

'Round here it means Electronic Lease Vehicle InformatioSystem. I think some computer programmer at DaimlerChrysler Financial came up with it as a joke years ago but somehow it made it out here and we still use it regularly to “E.L.V.I.S” lease vehicles after they are turned in.

Thanks, Didymus, for posting this information.

I will buy this whistle, almost no matter how high the price goes. If anyone on this board wants to bid on it, I can’t stop you, but I wanted to let you know. (I’m HomeStar7 on eBay).

The reason I’m doing this is, I’m collecting examples of various vintage and antique whistles so I can study the voicings and constructions. I believe some of the traditional voicings may be disappearing as old whistles are no longer in circulation and no longer being made the same ways.

Eventually, when my research and development are complete, I want to produce whistles that are faithful to voicings that have been used traditionally over long periods of time to make sure the full range of traditional whistle sounds remain available for any who would appreciate having access to them. This is the project that has begun with the tweaked Generations and tweaked Shaws.

Best wishes,
Jerry

This will be interesting to watch. The current high bidder has bought dozens of old pennywhistles in the past few months.

The main question of course is how do you know that any single whistle is a good representative of its family? It could have survived only because it was so bad nobody wanted to play it. But i guess just seeing how it’s built, how the voicing and the airway are shaped, etc, is already a worthy pursuit.

Everyonce and a while i see on of these being sold…I have never bid on them because well I don’t care much for wood inserts except of course on Shaws then I care for them very much.

There’s only about 40 minutes left in the auction, but I’ll post this just in case anyone’s watching.

I won’t be bidding on this after all. I’ve just totaled my checkbook, and I can’t do it just now. Next time one of these comes up, I’ll try again.

Thanks for the tip.

Best wishes,
Jerry

Jerry,
I know of some Hohner owners here on the board. Why not ask for a loan of Hohner, so you can study them?

Thanks, Bloo.

Yes. If anyone has one they would be willing to lend, please email or PM me. I would be most appreciative.

Best wishes,
Jerry
