Hills of Lorne (tune)

Hi,
This is probably for someone in Scotland…
I found this lovely tune and am wondering
if these are well-known “hills” and if they
are tree-covered with whistling birds; or
misty and windy and barren?
Anyone got a clue? I hate picturing the
totally wrong place as I play the tune, ha ha
Lolly

I also play this tune, and it is lovely.

Sometimes I play it along with Farewell to the Creeks, another piece I’d love to know the story on, if anyone knows.

Best wishes,

The hills around the Firth of Lorne look a bit barren.

Farewell to the Creeks is listed in the Fiddler’s Companion at Ceolas even though it’s a pipe tune.

Wow, Steve, Thanks,
even a pix. I was playing the tune on an A whistle, so that fits, or the lower the better even, it looks like.
Thanks so much
Lolly

Thanks for the info, that prompted me to look up “Farewell to the Creeks” in JC’s tunefinder.

I have never heard the version that is a pipe march before. I learned it as a slow waltz, but it is the same tune.

Thanks, and all my best,

Here’s a pipe version with all the trimmings.
