which high G whistle would anyone recommend i tried one from a friend and it was pretty loud with good tone it was brass and quite old but still sounded sweet i would like to add one to my whistle collection.
Could anyone who has used or has one point me in the direction of a good High G Whistle.
I wouldn’t argue against Doc’s suggestion on the Burke high G. Still you may as well start off with a Gen high G. They are darned affordable and kind of neat, IMHO. I have a Generation blue top nickel high G that’s quite useable. It’s a chirpy little thing. The hole spacing is pretty tight. Mine doesn’t get much serious use though.
As nice as a Burke would be, every collection needs a Gen high G. They’re only a few bucks and complete the coffee mug o’ whistles that every collector should have.
If you have the means and can score one, a Thin Weasel high G can’t be beat. Those are two pretty high orders though; I can’t imagine anyone with one ever parting with it, unless Bree still has a couple.
In the reasonable category, my Gen G is really quite nice.
My Gen is NOT very good. As we all know, Gens can be pretty variable so if you get a chance to test several, you might get a great one. I’ll bet a Jerry tweaked one would be good too, probably a lot better.
what sort of price would a good High G whistle be about…i,m not an expert player or a novice but most instruments i have are of good quality and more importantly have good tonal quality.
As far as I can see, anywhere from $40 (Susato V Series) to $190 (Burke). Since Thin Weasels are no longer made and finding a high G would be very difficult, I’d guess it could very well be more than the Burke. From what’s available, I’d say the Burke would be your best bet, although it’d be interesting to hear Mac Hoover’s high Gs in CPVC, brass, and aluminum since they’re $60.
If you want the best high G, Abell is your man.
Nicely chirpy high G but with zero sharpness or shrillness. Very woody sounding.
Check with Doc Jones; he’s had a few over the years.
New, they are currently priced at $350.00 and worth every penny.
