I like female singers, but sometimes it takes me a while to figure out something others have known for a long time…I was hooked on Julie Fowlis pretty early, but it took me a long time to find Kate Rusby, and now I’ve only just discovered Emily Smith (just in time to realize I missed her at Celtic Colours in October)…anyway, I was checking out some videos on Youtbe and there was a familiar face in the band, playing beautifully…http://www.youtube.com/emilysmithsongs (don’t know if he is on any others yet; look for ‘Sweet Lover of Mine’ if that doesn’t come up automatically in the frame.
Brian Finnegan.
Adrian: Thanks for pointing out this artist, Emily Smith! Very nice!
Russ
Yup, Brian Finnegan, I love his playing, and he and Emily are a nice combination… lots more of Emily on Youtube than the videos on her channel too.
One more post, then I’ll leave it alone…no flute content in this video (there could be though…if she’d just call!..I’m available)…my favorite song off her Robert Burns CD “Adoon Winding Nith”, and she’s singing in Scots if you find it hard to understand…http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=96Di4N6qox4&feature=related

Aye, Siobhan Miller is a fine singer. I noticed Phil Cunningham there on bouzouki. Eddie Reader is a favourite singer : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vlEFJTom_go&feature=related and also Aoife O’Donovan in the best acoustic band from the US Crooked Still http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GkAeyi8IeKA an old video but the mad cello solo is worth a listen
Big Davy and Steampacket;
Thanks! Knew Eddi Reader a little, but didn’t know the other two, so thanks for the tip.
Adrian

Boston bands without a guitar is one thing…
early Dylan influences I don’t have time for today.
Discovered Karine Polwart yet?
Hi Peter
Good choice, I could listen to Karine sing the alphabet, never mind a song.
Adrian W - a slightly more mature singer than the ones you were referencing - Mary Dillon, one of my favourite Irish singers.
