I am DJing at a wedding on the 20th August and have to play 30 minutes of upbeat Irish Jig type music. The type of music I have been given as an example for this section of my night is the song ‘Toss The Feathers’ from The Corrs Unplugged performance.
I wondered if anyone could help me pad this out with suggestions for the rest of my set and possibly even guide me towards some high quality legal downloads?
Just go to iTunes and google “Lunasa” - many of the tunes are already labeled by type (jig, reel, etc) in case you can’t recognize them. I assume when you say “jig type music” you probably mean reels, hornpipes, etc anyway.
Thanks for that. All I know is it should be Irish musics, prefereably Traditional and upbeat, to get people dancing. I want to avoid iTunes as the quality of the recordings they sell is poor and I’m DJing through a bands PA system. Thanks for your help!
That’s not really true. You can buy lossless
files through iTunes, which means it’s the
exact same data as is on the band’s CD.
But if you feel like you need the physical
media, I would suggest a compilation CD
so you automatically get a good variety
of tunes and instrumentation. For example:
I don’t use iTunes a lot as I don’t have an Apple device but the times I’ve looked I’ve not seen lossless files available. However, having read the wiki entry it seems what you say is true, please allow me to stand corrected.
However, what I’m looking for here people is, assuming I get a copy of the Corrs track, another 8 or 9 songs to make up half an hours worth of ‘all killer no filler’ guaranteed floor-filling Irish themed or influenced classics. I am thinking I need to get Whisky in the Jar and Steve Earls Galway girl in there and some stuff by the Dubliners and the Pogues… but this is where you guys come in! Come on, suggestions and agreement appreciated! I need your help!
