I’ve been offered the opportunity to record with a reasonably well known soprano singer in Australia. A conductor as a result has also arranged some music for orchestra especially for the Uilleann pipes (three in fact).
Two of the tracks are in D and G while the other is in F# Major. The only difficulty is I don’t have a fully keyed B chanter which would be necessary for this one track. The other two are fine on concert pitch. It is possible on a concert pitched chanter but the notes just sound odd as it is to high. I only have a Cn key as well so I’m cross-fingering notes everywhere. Possible but logistically difficult.
If a music maker or fellow musician would be able to loan a B chanter for two to three weeks that’d be great. For confidentiality reasons I have not posted the names of the soprano singer or arranger by order of her management. However if you are willing to supply an instrument for the recording, I would be able to give details of who that well known soprano and arranger are.
That B chanter would have a 16 bar solo section, so it has reasonable light on the track.
Cheers Luke
PS: Logistical challenge, the recording is being made before September 11.
Are you certain you’re looking for a B chanter and not a C#?
Playing F# major on a C# chanter would be like playing G major on a D chanter, except a half-tone lower. Or maybe I just need an extra coffee this morning …
By the way, congradulations on being asked to record with this singer and the orchestra.
Don’t let them shift-pitch a D or C chanter whatever you do! That has happened to recordings I have contributed to. Absolutely horrible! (and it’s not just my playing )
Yeah your right a fully keyed C# chanter would probably be better. Knowing the arranger and recording artist, he likes to remain true to the tradition. I don’t think he’d go and do such a thing with recording equipment. Second I don’t think the singer would wear such recording trickery either.
