Hello everyone…
I’m a newby and am looking for the sheet music for Siuil a Run for Tin Whistle (key of D)
I have one I got from thesession.org, but it’s not very good.
Any suggestions?

What’s wrong with the session’s version?
I don’t know… it doesn’t sound much like the song I’ve heard in the past.
I thought that I might have been playing it wrong, so I had a friend of mine play it on the piano for me (she’s great on the piano) and while it was true that I didn’t have a few of the note values right, it still didn’t sound (to me or to her) quite right. So I was hoping to find another version for comparison.
Do you have a particular version of Siúil a rún that you like?
It sounds like a good opportunity to learn a song by ear. Grab a recording that you like and listen to it often. Hum/sing along until you’ve got the melody and its nuances down. Then, play it in whatever key happens to be living in your whistle. (Trying to play along to a recording if your whistle isn’t capable of matching the key of the song can be confusing.)
Then, teach it to your friend. Together you should be able to transcribe the melody floating around inside your head if you still need the sheet music by that point.
Connie Dover does a lovely rendition of this song.
Well worth listening to.

I love this version:Clannad - Siúil A Rún
Tonight I will use my whistle and try to learn it by ear ![]()
Wow, that’s a great idea.
I think that I’ll try it. I have a couple of versions, but I really like a version by Orla Fallen (She plays it on the Harp) but I also like the one by Clannad.
Thanks again folks.
