I was watching some of the great quicktime clips on Kerrywhistles.com
and under Mike McGoldricks folder the second set really caught my ear!
It’s the second one: Mcgoldrick/Hammersmith/2001 a/ 6.0m
Mike is playing with JohnJoe and Ed Boyd.
Can anyone tell the names of the tunes in this set and…big if…the dots, abc file ..etc are out there somewhere?
I would really like to work on this set.

It’s a set of three jigs that appears on his album “Morning Rory”. The track listing gives them as:
Knocknamoe jig
Custy’s
Trip to Brittany
The Custy in the second refers to fiddler Mary Custy. However Mary Custy calls the same tune “Karen Tweed’s Cowboy Jig” and other musicians know it as “Karen Tweed’s” (she’s an English accordionist).
Mary Custy plays it in A whatever (gapped Dorian scale) but McGoldrick is playing it as if it were in B whatever, but on a F whistle so it comes out in D. It’s definitely easier on the whistle in B.
It starts with an upward run starting on high d:
def BAF ABc B3… Start with that, remember to play no Gs and you’ll soon find it practically plays itself.
I don’t play the other tunes so have no hints to give there. Good luck.

Well thanks Steve for the heads up on the tunes listing. I don’t have that CD…Don’t even know where to get it in the USA for that matter.
I really don’t follow what ya directed me to do with the ABC formatting. Kinda new to this ABC thing. I’m assuming that’s the second jig you are refering to though…smart fella ain’t I…HeHe.
So he’s playing an overton ‘F’ written for ‘D’?..hmm…can’t he make it easier?!?
