Anyone know if there are any, and if so, where can I find them??
By typing in “Hector the Hero” via search engine - http://www.argonet.co.uk/users/paw/tunes/hector.htm
I love Hector the Hero - but I can’t make those words fit the music from Mick’s site (www.fingertrip.net). I haven’t been able to locate any other sheet music. Any other versions of it out there anywhere?

I’ve heard several different versions besides the one I recorded with Mick (which was based on Laurence Nugent’s version).
There is some degree of variation, but not any major departure from ours.
I’ve seen the lyrics before, and I too am curious as to how they fit the music.
My guess would be that the lyrics are spoken rather than sung, but that’s just pure speculation.
Every version I’ve heard has been an instrumental, but surely someone has recorded a version with the lyrics.
I’d like to hear it if anybody knows where I could find a version with the lyrics.
Well, I took a look at the words, and they fit just fine… you’re just doing a lot of slurring with certain words.
Thanks!
I seem to recall that Larry changed the tune into a waltz, it was originally in 4/4 time. Maybe this is why you are having trouble.
Yeah, Peg, I think you’re right, I think I remember Larry saying it was originally a slow air and he sped it up and turned it into the waltz.

All the music I have seen for this tune have it in 3/4 as well as recordings (Wolfstone, Celtic Fiddle Fest, etc). What leads you to believe it was ever in 4/4??? And, sorry to sound the Grinch here, but to me the lyrics applied to Skinner’s tune sound rather forced and trite

. They hit me the same as “Come by the Hills” slapped on the tune/song “Buachaill on Eirne”.
Yuck!!!

.

P.S. I hope folks take those smilies with the humor intended.

Whistlepeg, Beth, who is this mysterious “Larry” who allegedly changed Skinner’s tune from 4/4 to 3/4?
That would be Laurence “Larry” Nugent. No relation that I know of to Ted Nugent.
I really recoment his CD “Two for Two”, where you can hear “Hector the Hero” in 3/4 time.
I would be surprised to discover that “Hector” actually has words, at least originally. This tune was composed by 19th century Scottish fiddler J. Scott Skinner for a friend who had comitted suicide. As far as I know he wrote it as a tune and nothing else. I would guess if there are words, they were added at a much later date.
Larry’s Nugent’s version is great, by the way, although I tend to prefer to play this tune on the guitar(it works well in DADGAD if that means anything to anyone else.) and I think I usually end up playing it in 4/4 time.
Slan,
