I’ve never made any secret of my difficulty in learning a tune by ear.
If anyone here is familiar with Heather Alexander’s tune “March of Cambreadth” (its on her Midsummer CD) could they maybe give me a hint with the key and first few notes?
I’m sure that no sheet music is available. The tune is her original as far as I can see and she’s so much a regional artist that there doesn’t seem to be much on the Web.

I wasn’t familiar with this tune but I found the tune on her web site and listened to it. If this is the version you have and you are trying to play along, I can see why you are having a problem. It seems to be in the key of Ab dorian – a most whistle-unfriendly key.
If you have an Eb whistle you could play along, fingering as if it were in A dorian on a D whistle (use c-naturals). The first few notes of the bagpipe bit (using d whistle fingering) would be:
Aeeg | f/2e/2 de2 | Aeed | BGA2
The first few notes of the vocal would be something like:
AAA2 | GEA2 | AcBG | BGA2
