It was like the M&M commercial with Plain and Santa.
I walked into my regular Thursday session and one of the diners came up and introduced himself. Can you believe it? It was Jim Stone! I recognized the name and he mine. Imagine, he never meet anyone from C&F before. Poor guy, I had to be his first.
He finished his meal and came back with his flute. He said he didn’t play whistle, but that was a fib because before the evening was through he borrowed my Dixon G and played along.
Funny thing about Jim…he talks in narrow paragraphs and no capital letters.
If you’re anywhere near the Pittsfield MA area on Thursday nights, Jim will be there through August I think he said. Of course, I’m there every Thursday.
We meet at Harrington’s Resturant in Lanesborough at 7:30.
Meeting C&Fer’s isn’t all that tough, unless you have a serious location problem. For the past several years a couple of us have announcerd a time and place to meet during the Milwaukee Irish Fest (August 18-21 this year) and been amazed at who shows up. Sometimes some of the performers even drop by.
Of course you’ll almost always meet board members if you attend the more prominent festivities and their workshops. It helps to add your screen name to your name tag too. Tionol at St Louis is infested with names you’ll easily recognize frim frequenting C & F.
Talk up a concert you plan to attend; name a spot to meet before hand. I remember seeing posts about performers showing up there too.
Of course wearing something with the C & F logo or the logo of your favorite whistle maker can work too. I can think of several whistle makers who are more than willing to sell you a T-shirt in your size.
Naturally you may want to seriously think about whether you really want to meet or be seen in the presence of some of the individuals who lurk about here.
I know. I’d hate to be exposed as dumb and boring.* If the opportunity arises for me to meet more Chiffers (have met LeeMarsh and Ron Kiley,) I’ll do it with trepidation.
Too bad you guys aren’t close enough to attend the chiffgathering in the San Francisco area. The place is positively swarming with chiffers. Having hung out with about 30 at one time, I can tell you it’s a big laugh fest. I’m not a regular party guy, but I sure look forward to this one. Some people play instruments, some don’t. No big deal. Just a lot of fun. We’d love to have you join us.
(There haven’t been any gloomy or contentious political debates, either, thank heaven.)

Jsluder, are you offering us use of your airbus? That’s swell of you, because right now Cran thinks I’m buying him a ticket, and if I do it’s going to be a Priceline gamble which might involve a plane change in Antarctica with a 3:00am departure.
It would probably be considered treason for me to own an Airbus jet, considering where I work. (Check my location; you can work out the rest for yourself.)
I’d like to have enough money to buy an Airbus jet, though. (Even just one of the smaller ones.)
The only one that I have met is Emmline. I hope to meet some others soon.
My son-in-law works for Airbus at the flight training center in Miami. He just got back from France. He says the 380 is one huge plane. With him working at the training center I often get to fly the simulator for the 340. I hope I get to fly the 380 simulator one of these days.
Hopefully I will see some people at Leesburg on the 11th. Then maybe some others in Gettysburg later on.
Well, you’ll have to look quickly. This is, as I said, a plane change and you’ll only have 10 minutes to get from Hangar A to Hangar B. Too slow and you not only miss your connection, but you become a piece of the airport statuary.
