having trouble hitting middle D' with my chieftain

i’ve been playing on a clarke, and i recently purchased a chieftain in D, but i can’t seem to hit the middle D’ or C #. it sounds horrible. anyone have any suggestions? it was so much easier to play my ten dollar clarke!!!

I have a couple of Chieftains. A couple of things I noticed.

  1. if it’s a tunable version. tune on a middle tone and try the key note and its octaves again.
  2. I found that the octave key note (your D’ on the D whistle) is best played with XXXXXX fingering rather than OXXXXX; but, I have to make sure all of the holes have good seals.

Hope this helps and …
