I just heard that Liam O’Flynn played for the funeral as will Finbar Furey.
Considering the number of musicians who benefit from the famous Artist’s Exemption from income tax (which Haughey introduced), you’d think they’d be lining up to pay tribute to the Boss.
Flynn played Port na bPucai, which is associated with the Haughey owned Inishvickilane. Heaney’s ‘the Given Note’, the poem about the air was read before. Furey played the Lonesome Boatman, obvious enough for it’s associations. I posted about that while they were at it, on the ‘Charlie snuffed it’ thread over on the controversial forum.
The old people were there too, thanking him for free travel ![]()
My thoughts on the late CJ are best kept for the rubber-lined room.
An Irish solution… ![]()
I hope he was laid to rest in one of those Charvet shirts.
Move along, please, there’s plenty of room in the other forum!
You can see Liam and Finbar playing at the funeral on the RTE website. Click on this link and FF>> to around 1:58:30.

Lovely. People might start going again if they got a weekly Reading from St Heaney followed by Liam O’Flynn.
