Has anyone heard of a FluteMaker named C. Fischer?

The flute is rosewood, I would guess about 100 or so years old. Any info would be greatly appreciated as I am considering buying it.

Thanks

Ron

Carl Fischer was/is a music store and had someone make the flutes for them. The flute you’re looking at is likely French. The barrel in the crack is easily fixed at home with some expanding super glue. The upper trill keys on this flute are a little fussy but all in all I’d say it’s worth a gamble of a couple of hundred bucks. Count on somewhere of around 80 to 100 dollars to have someone repad it. In all likelihood, contemporary pads will not fit in the keys readily and it will take some mucking about to get the job done right.

I think it’s great your thinking about purchasing an old instrument. Keep em alive and don’t be afraid to saw off the bottom to bring the low d up to pitch!

I wonder if C. Fischer could be be the Australian pipe maker Craig Fischer. Craig has a very good reputation, and is extremely knowledgable about classic uilleann pipes. Has taken lots of measurements and is currently working on a book about the pipes that will probably be a standard work of reference. It’s possible that he has made a flute or two in his time
