Has Anyone Ever tried the 5 Keyed Flute...?

Sold by Lark in the Morning for $400?

Is it another one of those Pakistani firewood imitations? Or, a true musical instrument? I know, yo9u get what you pay for, but there’s also a sucker born every minute.
Thanks Anthony

be afraid…

note the change between the barrel and the body

you can not get 5 keys for $400…let alone a flute

Here be the flute:

What be the notable change between the barrel and the body? I’m asking just out of curiousity. I don’t want to risk money on a dubious flute.

if you click the lark picture it will show a slightly bigger picture…there is a difference in outside diameter at that point.

read this The Phantom Button should be correct.

That is the larger photo. The larger diameter of the barrel reminds me of Sweetheart flutes. It doesn’t look like a detriment. That’s why I’m curious about it.

I have one that I started on (and was kinda looking to sell now). yes, it’s a pakistani make and I’m sure lots of people will say it’s just firewood and everything, and it certainly isn’t the greatest flute. however, for someone like me coming from a strong classical background, I actually didn’t have that much trouble with it. I can get a consistent tone across the range and the intonation is managable. when I bought it, I needed the option of the keys (being able to play chromatically more easily) without the cost commitment of a nicer flute. I would certainly tell beginners to go with a keyless flute of more dependable make, but if you need the keys (for other genres or whatever) and have some experience this really isn’t that bad.

now everyone else can feel free to voice their (no doubt strong) opinions and tell me I’m completely wrong. that’s just my 2 cents. I’m certainly not going to argue in favor of these flutes, I just think maybe some people have worse experiences with them then others.

Nope. It’s garbage. Save a little more money and get yourself something better. You deserve it.

Before ordering anything from LIM, you’d be advised to look at their return policy. My husband ordered a set of Pakistani pipes for me several years ago for Christmas that were unplayable. Even my pipe teacher couldn’t get them to work. When I called LIM, I was told pipes are naturally difficult to play and I shouldn’t expect to sound good immediately. Also, because more than 15 days had passed, they wouldn’t accept an exchange or return. Admittedly, 4 weeks had passed (my husband ordered them maybe 2 weeks before Christmas) but I’d only had them in my possession for two and it took that long before my teacher could try them as he was out of town for the holiday. Now, years later, I understand to be suspicious of any instrument that the maker wouldn’t sell under his or her own (or a reputable maker’s) name. If you do decide to order the flute make sure to have it checked it out thoroughly as soon as you get it.

A Highland-piping pal of mine was given a set of Lark pipes by his wife for Christmas a few years ago. He can play 'em, but no one can play with him – they’re in some key resembling C#, I believe.
