i’m the proud owner of a hall crystal flute with 1 1/2 months left to the 1 year warranty. i just dropped my flute from a height of 6’ (2 meters) it landed on a sisal rug in 1 piece and without breakage. whew. what i’d like to hear about is anyone’s experience with chipping and breaking. i’m not meaning to disrepect hall flutes, i’d just like to hear their stories and words of advice.
Got a whole set…havn’t been able to break one yet…Pyrex (or generic borosilicate y’know) 
I’ve given them to my nieces as presents…they’re all still together as of this writing…I hope I don’t regret saying that…
Can’t say the same for the ceramics though…(shipping is tough on them)

Yes! I broke one & cried. I took my D flute to a pub, got home, opened the door, & it slid out of the pretty wooden case, smashed to the floor in hundreds of pieces. They’re generally very resilient, but just like Pyrex, if they break, they shatter. If it had broken into a few pieces, I would have tried to glue it back together, but this just wasn’t possible. I had purchased that one from eBay, but got another one from the Hall website; they guarantee. I don’t carry it around in the wooden ‘stand’ any more.

Oh, one more thing. There was a young girl a few years ago who frequented alt.flute.com. She was devastated because she accidentally sat on her Hall & it broke in 3 perfect pieces. They tried to glue it together but it didn’t work. (Personally, I think I could have done it.!) Several people went together & sent her money for a new one. Halls are pretty much indestructible, but accidents happen . . .
thanks for the replies. i’m hoping that since just a couple of your wrote in that they’re most indestructible than i imagined. it wouldn’t hurt if folks who own a hall crystal flute and have managed to not break it would tell me the worst that they’ve done and still have a flute in one piece. thanks folks.
My big question about the glass flutes is are they availible with tuning slides?
nope. no tuning slide for the crystal flute. here’s the link to the manufacturer’s website.
you might want to do a search of the forums to see what folks have to say about these flutes. i like my flute.
No tuning slides. The glass manufacturing process will often make the note holes misshapen, & that can make it hard for small fingers to cover. The spread is difficult too, for small hands. I used small layers of clear nail polish to build up the low areas on the holes. Hall offers, at a price, to correct this, but I prefer to do it myself. If I mess up, all I need is nail polish remover. You’ve gotta do a lot of half & cross fingering. They’re difficult to play but the sound is great, & they’re PRETTY! I’ve been playing my Selmer USA lately; much easier. I still keep the Hall nearby tho, & will pick it up occasionally because I think the different embouchure for the Hall helps my embouchure with the Selmer.
